River Rafting Vilcanota River
The Urubamba river runs from the high Andean ranges down through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, past Machupicchu, and into the jungle.
The Urubamba is divided into Upper Urubamba and Lower Urubamba, the dividing feature being the Pongo de Mainique, a whitewater canyon that opens into the Amazon plain.
It has some exciting white water depending on the section of the river being done and the time of the year. One of our most popular rafting sections during the season is the “Chuquicahuna- (CHUQUI)” section of the river on the Upper Urubamba.
There are good class III rapids and the water is not contaminated, as unfortunately is the Urubamba river that can be seen on the tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Live many sensations in a single day! With this special package you will be thrilled with the rapids of the Urubamba River, marvel at the landscape, delight yourself with a delicious lunch, relax in the sauna, get excited on the zip line and be enchanted by the kindness of the locals.
This section is perfect for one-day tours, with nice class II, III, and III+ rapids. Excellent scenic riverside view with big eucalyptus trees, beautiful flowers. This white water rafting section is all year long and from early December to late March the river is Class IV.
We will pick you up at 8:30 in the morning from your Hotel in Cusco with all the biosafety protocols. Our transport will take you to the south of Cusco to the town of Cusipata. The transfer lasts an average of 1 hour 40 minutes on the Cusco-Sicuani highway.
We will arrive at our Destination “Cusipata River Lodge”. Upon arrival you will find all the needed facilities: toilets, dressing rooms, sauna and lockers. Then you will be provided with all the rafting equipment: helmet, life jacket, wetsuit and a waterproof jacket, which have all been sanitized under biosecurity protocols.
You will be transported up river where the guides will provide you with all the necessary information and then proceed down the river tour in self-evacuating inflatable rafts for an approximate time of 2 hours. The rapids in this section are class III and III + – we also send a safety kayaker.
At the end of the rafting we will return to “Cusipata River Lodge” where you can take a shower with hot water and enter the sauna, and then have a delicious lunch in our dining room (we also have a vegetarian option).
Then you can enjoy the zip line which crosses over the beautiful river waters. The guides will provide you with all the necessary information about the zip line, which consists of 2 cables of 100 meters long each. Then you will be transported back in the city of
Cusco at 5:30 p.m. approx.

All Pacha Peru Explorers guides have received specialized training in first aid. We hold mandatory training sessions with our guides every February. Your guide will always carry a first aid kit to face basic emergencies (altitude sickness, travelers’ diarrhea, cuts, scrapes, etc.) as well as oxygen. If necessary, we’ll evacuate you from the path as quickly as possible and ensure that you arrive at a clinic for treatment.
We have telephone service available 24 hours/day for ease of communication with Pacha Peru Explorers leading up to your experiences or trek.
Tipping is the norm on any excursion to Machu Picchu. Although we pay good salaries to our entire team, something extra is always welcome, especially considering the hard work they do. Typically, group participants collect their tips to hand out to the horsemen and chefs together.

Note: Please be aware that the weather in the Andes can change quickly, so it is important to bring appropriate layers and gear to stay comfortable and safe.
